2018 Awards – We need your nominations!

The Old Velasco/Surfside Beach Historical Committee and the Old Fort Velasco Historical Association are seeking nominations for the third annual George Kramig Preservation Award, Dan Parkinson Literary Award, and Ann Brightwell Artist Award.

George Kramig Preservation Award:  This award recognizes an individual/or group who has made outstanding contributions to the preservation of the rich history of Southern Brazoria County, advanced the preservation of the land and/or structures of historic sites for future generations, and inspired others to do the same.  (2016 winner:  Dr. Bob Schwebel; 2017 winner:  Nat Hickey)

Dan Parkinson Literary Award:  This award recognizes an individual who has used his/her writing ability to promote the rich history of Brazoria County.  (2016 winner:  David Devaney; 2017 winner:  Marie Beth Jones)

Ann Brightwell Artist Award:  This award recognizes an individual who has used his/her artistic talent to promote the rich history of Brazoria County.  (2016 winner:  Carrie Primm; 2017 winner:  Julia Crainer {1924-2015})

The awards will be presented at a celebration of the anniversary of the 1832 Battle of Velasco on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at the Village of Surfside Beach City Hall, 1304 Monument Drive.  Doors will open at 4:30 PM, and we shall present the awards at 5:30 PM.  Gulf Coast Engraving has donated plaques on which they will inscribe the names of the winners.  Winners will also be honored with a paver in the Surfside Beach Lions Club walkway located at the entrance to Surfside Beach and a framed certificate.

  1. name of the award and contact information of nominee (or representative if nominee is deceased)
  2. your contact information
  3. your reason(s) for nominating the individual or group
